What to Pack When Taking Your Little Ones on Holiday

Heading out on holiday can be stressful at the best of times, but when you are travelling long distances with the little ones the experience can be even more so. One of the most important aspects involved in taking your children on holiday is knowing what to pack. There are a range of different supplies that will make both the journey and actually being on holiday less stressful and more enjoyable. Take a look at some of the fundamental and helpful things that you should pack when embarking on your next adventure!

Always organise

One of the most important things that you need to do is organise! Never underestimate the power of a list, spreadsheet or well formed plan. Many people believe that 70% of everything that you do should be planning! The more organised your plans are, the more likely you are to have a smooth journey. Make sure that you pre-plan your packing list, and then stick to it when it actually comes to packing! This way you will minimise the likelihood of forgetting something at the last minute. No one wants to head off on their family holiday and forget to bring the baby’s nappies!

Medical supplies

Making sure that you are prepared and ready for any ailments while on your holiday is always a great idea. Taking your own miniature medical kit with you will put you in good stead should any accidents happen. Being prepared is better than not having the relevant supplies when you need them.

Their favourite toys

With all of the stress and pressure of heading out on holiday, it can be easy to forget the little things! Taking a few of your little one’s favourite toys will help to keep them occupied and looked after both while on the flight and while you are on holiday too. Make sure that you take some of their favourite bits with you when you go away to keep them feeling safe, sound and well looked after!

Accessories

Making sure that you have the relevant and appropriate clothing is hugely important to making sure that your little ones are comfortable. Make sure that you account for the different types of weather that might occur during your trip abroad. If you are heading to an extremely hot or cold country then make sure that you pack accordingly. This can be the difference between comfort and discomfort for your child, so it's really important that you get it right! Other clothing and accessories that you should consider include the following:

  • Umbrellas: If you are heading somewhere where there are likely to be showers then make sure that you take an umbrella with you!
  • Footwear: Making sure that you have the right shoes for your child is really important. If you are heading somewhere hot then consider taking sandals and breathable footwear. If you are heading somewhere with snow then take thick boots and socks!
  • Bags: Make sure that both you and your child have the bags and luggage carriers that you need to get around with ease. Take a backpack or bag for day trips and a large suitcase to put all of your things in. You may also have separate carrieres for nappy supplies, medical equipment and toiletries.

Always remember the Essentials

Sometimes it can be easy to get so caught up in what you are taking on holiday with you that you forget to take the essentials. Make sure that you remember your child's essential things. These include the following:

Nappies

Tooth paste/brush

Soaps and toiletries

Any medication

Clothing (pants, socks, tops, trousers, coats, jackets etc…)

Swimming gear

Sun cream

Dummies

Bottles/feeding equipment

Equipment

Make sure that you take the relevant equipment with you when you are travelling with your little one. Remember things like strollers, car seats, any feeding accessories that you may require, potty training goods, travel cots, night lights and bags/carriers. This will ensure that you have all the gear with you during both your travels and during your holiday!

Amber beads to alleviate teething problems

Amber beads, necklaces and bracelets are used by many parents as a way of alleviating their child’s teething pains. The beads are said to reduce swelling in the gums and make for a more comfortable sleep for your child. This is an essential item for any teething baby. Make sure that you take these with you when you travel to help your child feel more comfortable.

Documentation

One of the most important things that you need to remember to take with you when you are travelling abroad is your child’s travel documents! Without these you will be unable to board your flight, so they really should be number one on your list of things to pack! Make sure that you have your child’s passport, documents and insurance sorted before you head off on your holiday to avoid any last minute stress.

What else do you need to think about?

There are a range of other things that you need to remember to organise when you are heading on holiday with your little ones. Making sure that you appropriately organise your journey is by far the most important aspect of heading on holiday with young children. Make sure that you pre-book everything including your cheap airport parking, your flights, accomodation, your passports/documents and your airport transfers. This will increase the ease of your journey and help to alleviate any stress. It is also worth thinking about what food and snacks you may want for your journey!

There are a lot of different things to consider when traveling abroad with your little ones, and what to pack is a very significant factor in determining the ease and enjoyability of your holiday. So make sure that you stay organised, take medical supplies, think toys, remember the clothing and pack the essentials. You could also take some amber beads to alleviate teething problems and always remember to take the relevant documentation too! With these tips in mind you should be well on your way to having a well-packed holiday with your little ones!
